Beat with Winter Blues with Decorating

27 Jan 2017, by Agricola Redesign Staff in Home Decor

We hope you enjoyed your holidays and your new year is off to a great start!

Now that the holidays are over, though, some people will start feeling a bit of the winter blues. With less hours of daylight and the pretty decorations put away, it’s easy to slip into a bit of a seasonal depression that leaves you feeling tired, unmotivated, and uninspired.

We know that this can be a difficult time, and that’s why we like to help our clients redesign their spaces during the winter months! We also enjoy helping them make a homework list of projects that they might want to think of accomplishing in the new year. When you have so many ideas buzzing through your head it’s hard to put them away and easier to get off the couch and get to work!

Here are a few ideas to put on your homework list for the new year, and make them a resolution to complete!

1. Update your walls

Color trends change every year. From light and bright colors to dark and daring, colors don’t go out of style, it’s just the pairings of different colors that come and go. New color combinations may be just what your walls need for a fresh, new look, especially if you’ve had the same color palette in your home for a very long time. Changing up the colors on your walls is a great way to update the look of a room without purchasing new furniture and decor. Color changes are also the perfect way to bring out the fabric in your home, especially when the fabrics and colors perfectly complement each other!

2. Upgrade your window coverings

It’s so easy to dress up your windows and forget about them. Windows are, after all, one of the most overlooked parts of a home. But a little attention in this area can go a long way. In fact, you can give a room a whole new look just by updated the window coverings! Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean going out to the store and purchasing brand new curtains, because we know they can get expensive. What we mean is to bring in new hardware, such as new curtain rods, to freshen up your window dressings. You may also want to bring out your seamstress skills by adding new fabric or trim to curtains you’re already using. It’s amazing how different curtains can look just by adding a few frills here and there.

3. Multi-task a room

Winter often means that you don’t really want to move from your favorite spot in the house. Whether it’s the couch or your comfy rocker, we don’t blame you. One way to make it a little easier to get up and feel inspired is to bring your furniture groupings closer together and multi-tasking a room. You may want to make one portion of the room a spot for reading and another area the place where everyone gathers around the fire to chat. When you bring rooms together like this, it will warm your spirit and help you think less of the cold, colorless winter and more of sunshine and heat. Plus, when you add in the perfect throw blanket or pillow, along with lighting, you’ll create the perfect haven to hibernate this winter.

A Village Gift Shop will have the perfect lamp, throw, or table runner to help you create the homey, cozy feel you’re trying to accomplish in your home.
